I attended a conference last weekend for pastor’s wives. I struggle a little bit when I go to those things because I still don’t quite feel like events targeted to women reach me. My question is…when do you start feeling like an adult?! I’m still not quite there yet.
Anyway…
I attended a small breakout session that focused on creating a home. It was AWESOME. The leader there gave some great tips about decorating. She also gave ideas to make your home 3 things: a home of refuge, a home for ministry, and a home for worship.
I’m going to focus on one aspect per blog post, so today is creating a home of refuge (which you already knew probably if you read the title, hehe).
Set the Right Tone for Your Home:
“The wise woman builds her house with her own hands, but with her own hands the foolish one tears her down.” Proverbs 14:1.
Pay attention to the “5 Senses of the Home”
- Sight- What is the purpose of what you use to decorate your home? She said that she decorates with scripture and uses crowns (like metal crowns…they actually looked really cool) to remind her who reigns in her home. She also uses pieces that remind her to pray for specific people or for her family. Do you decorate with purpose?
- Smell- Of course you want your home to smell nice. You could use scents as a reminder to check the “fragrance” you are emitting to God.
- Sound- Make sure the sounds of your home are not distracting from God. Find ways that you can create peaceful sounds in your home.
- Touch- Choose soft, comfortable textures.
- Taste- decorate with taste!
This is something that I truly desire to create for my family. I love to be at home after a long day at work and hear my husband say, “I just love our home.”

What a great point to remember the 5 senses, so often we focus so much on the visual.
Hope you have a great weekend,
Jade

What a great post!
I just read your comment about your credit card. Huh, that's weird! Let me know if that happens again. Thanks so much for your order in advance! What were you trying to order? Let me know if you have any more issues.
